Strictly speaking, '_' is not a valid character for a DNS name so a newer nslookup likely won't change much in that regard. I do believe that newer revs of HP-UX include the "dig" command which folks should probably start using instead of nslookup anyway.

We are having HP rp 3400 machine.
We need to resolve our HP machine with DNS server.
For that followed the below steps,
nslookup
>set type=SRV
>_grid._tcp
Unrecognized command: _grid._tcp

The above command works on other UNIX machine.
Any body knows the above command?
Can any one helps on this?
Thanks
Saravanan

It looks to me like _grid._tcp might be a script that exists on your other server but not on this rp3400. On your other server, try "whence _grid._tcp", "ll {pathname}_grid._tcp", and "more {pathname}_grid._tcp" to see if we can tell exactly what it is.

Pete

I know nothing, but would it be too much to
ask what "other UNIX machine" might be?

Thr nslookup program on your version of HP-UX
(whatever that might be) seems to think that
a name which begins with "_" is not a valid
name, so it must be a command, and it's not a
valid command, so it complains.

You may be able to find a newer/better
nslookup program somewhere.

Google suggests that you may be working with
CA Unicenter, which, if true, might have been
an interesting fact to disclose. In which
case, if they're asking you to use nslookup
this way, they probably have a solution for
you, too.
