And the real question, assuming SharedX is available, will I be able to start the application on a PC running a X Server (such as Exceed) and then use SharedX to push windows to another box or two?

it should;Considering shardeX replaced with some Xprogram(xvfb/xhp) on new OS versions.
It is like diverting DISPLAY to a different terminal where program like exceed is running.

SharedX support on current server

We have a workstation (J282/2) dedicated to running an application that generates two status screens. We currently use SharedX to push these status screens to two seperate Wintel machines running Exceed so that the status screen can be viewed remotely. The current hardware is obsolete (J282/2) and the OS that is running on it is also obsolete (HP-UX 10.20). We are looking to upgrade this system to something that is currently sold and supported. The application itself cannot, at this point in time, be modified, but I have tested it running on a 11.11 rp2470 development box and it runs.

The questions I have for the forum, and points will be awarded, are:

Is SharedX still available on a current server (thinking a rp3410) running 11.xx?

If so, is it part of FOE or an extra cost option now?

And the real question, assuming SharedX is available, will I be able to start the application on a PC running a X Server (such as Exceed) and then use SharedX to push windows to another box or two?

Shalom,

If by sharedX you mean X windows, yes that is still supported and runs on all OS options.

You will have no problem with X on the new box.

Note that after the cold OS install you will need to do two things:

vi /etc/rc.config.d/xfs
# set the auto start variable to 1.

/sbin/init.d/xfs start
# one time start of X windows font server. Or just reboot.

SEP

SEP:

By SharedX I mean the software provided by HP with HP-UX 10.20 (at least) that allowed X-windows to share windows between systems, like t netmeeting does in the Wintel world. This runs on top of the X-windows system, but is in addition to the normal CDE environment not jusy plain X-windows. I belive that back in the 10.20 days it was considered part of, or associated with, the MPower suite.

We use this to replicate/push two different windows from the HP-UX box to two Wintel boxes running Exceed. This allows us to have the interactive window (the HP-UX one) screenlocked but the replicated PC's are normally viewable 24x7.

Yes, SharedX was nice but I'm sure it isn't there any more.

Recently I had to see what was being done around the world and they used VNC with a browser based server. I just had to type in a URL.

Pretty certain SharedX disappeared after 11.00 but see http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B7580AA&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

hpvc may be of use.

Thanks to all that replied. No fixed solution yet, but we'll be looking at both packages presented.

Sorry about the delay in closing the thread, but I was trying to get some more time to look at both solutions provided. It does not look like I'll be able to do so soon, so the thread is being closed.

Points are provided to all.
