    <description>If you are trying to extract a tar file, you need to use the 'f' flag.  Try this:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;tar -xvf sam.tar&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you would prefer a listing before you extract:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;tar -tvf sam.tar</description>

      <description>when i try to do: tar xvm sam.tar i get:&lt;BR /&gt;cannot open /dev/rmt/Om..  the file was created on one server and rcp'd to the server i'm trying to do the tar on &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;!--!*#--&gt;"man tar"?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;   tar xvmf sam.tar&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Without "f", it uses the default tape drive.</description>
