Hi,
did you modify your /etc/securetty ?

In this file are listed the connection allowed for root, and usually there is only the entry "console", meaning root can only connect directly from console.

But you can log as a normal user and do "su -" , is it true ?

HTH,
Massimo
Another possibility is that you need to enter just the first 8 characters (if your password was longer than that.)

And yes, the system must be converted to trusted in order to use auditing.

regards,

Darren.

Dear all
the situation is that I can't logon as root even from console.
when I try to logon as any other user the system ask to change the password and logon normally after that.
Do you think the system assigned a default password for the root?? or there is a way to log as root??

Thanks

Burthan,

try just the first 8 characters of your root password.

I have seen situations where following conversion to trusted system the root password gets truncated to 8 characters.

HTH

Duncan

You mean to say that the trusted computing base is turned on now? After converting the sytem to trusted, are you not able to login to the system?

If that is the case you can use the command "tsconvert" command to turn of the trusted computing base.

also below mentioned URL should be useful.

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xf71db941255cd71190080090279cd0f9,00.html
