How do I view application-specific man pages?

I've just installed an application and there's a man directory in the directory that it was installed to and I can't run man on the contents.

I think I'm supposed to format them or something to make them visible using man, but I cant find the command(s) to do it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Gary,

Just add the location of the man pages for your application to your MANPATH variable:

For Veritas man pages for example:

MANPATH=$MANPATH:/opt/VRTS/man;export MANPATH

Typically if the application knows knows how to install itself properly, it should add the man page paths to /etc/MANPATH. Then if you relog back in or execute your .profile, then these paths should be added to your MANPATH.

For the short term, there's also "man -M".
"man man".
