Cops and crack is still recommended among others, I know SATAN and Medusa is widely used too. We are using Medusa and crack on site. Among other tools you might want to check out as follows. I do not know if HP has a any other "recommended" tools but I would think the above 4 are in the list.

http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/security_tools.html

I was told HP has a security training course, some HP recommended security tools were mentioned during the training, did anybody attend this kind of training, and what the info of those tools? Thanks.

Hi Victor,

I took the HP System Security course back in 1995 so I'm sure it's been updated since. At that time the only tools recommended were Cops and Crack. They also talked about Trusted Systems and Kerberos. Hope this is some help.

Pete

Thanks, Pete. 1995 is long time ago, I am sure those tools you mentioned are not what I am looking for. Actually, I am looking for some HP recommended tools in last year's course or this year. It should be some other different tools.
Hi,

my knowledge is only slighty more recent (perhaps one year or so), but the tools mentioned in that training are pretty old, as the point is more to show the problems and the principals, but not the up-to-date tools, problems, or solutions...
You might get more from reading Steve's "bastion host" script:
http://people.hp.se/stevesk/bastion11.html

HTH,
Wodisch

Everything that HP recommends is in the Practical Internet Security Book published by O'Reily. This book is given to you as part of the course. I've read the book and it has a lot of good info and ideas.

GL,
C
