Is it possible to prevent anonymous ftp users from executing the chmod command.

Yes, by making all anonymous ftp users grouprights guest...
You can use the ftpaccess file to configure what group rights users have and can do. /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess
To activate this file in inetd.conf add at the end of the ftp stream .... -a.

Hi Kevin,

Make sure the shell for user ftp is defined as '/usr/bin/false', and that user ftp is member of group 'guest'
