After the reboot I did a patch analysis and it still shows this as a recommended patch so I assume it didn't apply.

You may not have enough room in /tmp (depends on the patch requirements) and sometimes that is the path it requires. I posted the same question recently because it was happening to me. You can vi the patch and see where it was trying to go and increase that filesystem, or use uudecode.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1074511

Shalom,

The installation log says exactly why the patch won't install. There is an error there it should be acted on. It could be any filesystem that the patch requires.

SEP

What am I doing wrong

Ok from the begging
I login to itrc.hp.com
I select "patch database"
I select "find patches for my HP-UX system"
I select "upload new system information"
I download the swainv script.
I run the script on my HP-UX system.
I transfer the inventory.xml file to itrc
Make sure my system info is selected
I select "Browse Patch List"
make sure Search only patches that are applicable to this system is checked
I select all per page.
and click search.

I select all recommended patched by checking them individually (is there an easier way)
I select "add to selected patch list"
It then say stuff about dependancies and superceided patches
I leave these default and hit continue.
It then adds the dependent patch to the list and just selects superceided patches
next I click on "download selected"
then I choose to download them all at once.
and I download the the .zip file to my hp-ux system.
I create a uniq directory in /tmp
I cd to that directory
I unzip the .zip file there.
I run the create_depot_hp-ux_11 script the comes with it.
and I run swinstall
I select the /tmp/<UNIQ dir="">/depot directory
for the "Source Depot Path"
This shows a BUNDLE in swinstall I select this BUNDLE to be installed by right clicking and selecting "Mark For Install".
Already it says stuff as follows
... difficulties were encountered while marking some items that it depends on.
...
However, these items may already be in the target.
Trusting that the inventory script and that itrc would select all patches I needed for my system I select OK and assume that all items are on the target.
I then proceed to install Action->Install...
Then it gives a bunch of missing dependencies in the ERRORS but still selects a number of the patches for install.
I went ahead and let it install the patches it could.
How do I resolve missing dependencies?
Shouldn't itrc have done this for me?
</UNIQ>

Hi Jeff:

> ... difficulties were encountered while marking some items that it depends on.
...However, these items may already be in the target...How do I resolve missing dependencies? Shouldn't itrc have done this for me?

If the 'swinstall' analysis phase completes successfully, then any/all patch dependencies were resolved.

It is not uncommon to create a patch depot using '-x enforce_dependencies=false' and *defer* the dependency analysis (using '-x enforce_dependencies=true') until the 'swinstall' session. This causes the dependency analysis to be done using the union of the software depot and the Installed Product Database (IPD or '/var/adm/sw/') on the server. This IPD is the the "target" to which 'swinstall' refers.

Regards!

...JRF...

But since I downloaded all the patches that it recommended all at once and created the depot with all the patches in it. Shouldn't all the dependencies I need be there? It claimed to have added items to my download list of dependencies.

Hi Jeff,

Can you perform a check_patches to check the state of the patches installed on your server.
You can also check with "swlist -l fileset -a state" all should be in a configured state.

Is the dependent patch included in your deport?

Goodluck

While it didn't solve my problem "swlist -l fileset -a state" did help me out tremendously in removing all the Internationalization I only have English speaking people administering I took off all packages that were for other languages. This seems to have cut down the amount of patches that itrc says I need.

Thanks Darrel Louis

Its just an erronious error message It had nothing to do with disk space it had to do with other errors I started a thread to deal more directly with the error I am having
