Basic Networking Utilities (UUCP)

Hi,

We are running HP-UX 10.20 on series 700 machines and would like to use modems
to connect our systems from remote sites to our local site. I am attempting to
set up uucp so that I can eventually make a SLIP connection. (I am fairly new
to this game so please bear with me or correct me if I talk nonsence) Up to now
I can connect to the remote system using:
cu -s9600 -lcul1p0 dir (which connects me to my local modem) and then typing
modem commands (ATDT) to phone the remote system, which responds with the login
prompt, but it stops there. I have set up my Devices, Dialers, Systems and
Permission files in /etc/uucp to the best of my knowledge. When I try to
connect to the remote system using Uutry -r remname it gets to the point where
it expects the login prompt and just waits there until it times out. My chat
scripts in the Systems file "expects" the correct prompt and when I dial in
manually I get the prompt, but when trying to connect automatically the prompt
doesnt seem to appear.

I know that the information supplied above is far from enough to establish the
real cause of the problem, but if anybody knows where I can find more
information on setting up UUCP and SLIP connections I would really appreciate
the help. The only documentation my company has on this is the HP "Remote
Access Users Guide" which is written for HP-UX 8.? and which (according to the
HP website) is obsolete.

Try looking at this document I found in the Technical Knowledge Base. I used
the search string: UUCP SLIP

It describes how to Setup a SLIP line and how to configure it for UUCP.

try looking in docs.hp.com there you will find even how configure point to
point serial ports, if you prefer use it over slip.
