Small text editor

I am using a HP-9000, HP-UX system. I am simply curious if a very small text
editor exists which is
very easy to use and can be easily installed on this
particular machine.

I can use vi but surely someone must have written
something simple and user friendly that could be
run on this machine.

It seems to me that you should be able to write an editor that would work great
and that would be around
60K or so in the size of the executable file. I know
that is possible on microcomputers but maybe I'm not
being realistic here.

I would suggest searching around in places like Tucows under thier "linux"
areas. You can often find freeware or 'GPLd' software that can be compiled
under HP-UX. I have gotten a copy of NEdit from Tocows that I am using on both
an HP-UX and a Sun Solaris machine. NEdit is not "small" and does require a
GUI (Motif), but it is not very large either. You may find something more
suitable to your needs, though.

If you go to one of the Software Porting
Centers like http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/
in Utah you can search for "nedit" and find
source code plus binaries for nedit for
HP-UX 10.20 and 11.0 .
