if the tape device is on another system can you use
/opt/ignite/bin/make_recovery -A -d :/dev/rmt/0m ?

I believe make_recovery will only work on a locally installed tape drive.

Hi,

the answer is NO !
You cannot use a remote tape device with make_recovery.
You can use make_net_recovery but this writes an image to a remote directory not to a device.

make_recovery tape can be created only on local drive. Instead you can installed an external tape drive borrowed temporarily from some other servers if you have one.

However, you could use the make_net_recovery to backup to the server with a tape drive.

We currently use this tool for a number of tapeless clients and then backup the archives to tape using Omniback.

Adds an extra layer into the recovery, but saves a good bit in tape drive costs.
