does anyone know whether HP-UX supports database access and messaging systems and what are they?

I may be mis-reading your question. Does HPUX support d/b access? Yes, Oracle, Sybase, Informix...etc....Am I misunderstanding your question.

As for messaging systems...yes, there is elm,sendmail,mailx for mail to name a few. And there is talk and write for chatting, ... and I'm sure there are plenty more, that's the beauty of HPUX, it is pretty much whatever you want to design it to be...

Add to Ritas good list Openmail (Messaging system). Supports 90% of the features of Microsoft Exchange but runs on much larger, faster, more reliable HPUX servers. Used by lots of big companies, Swiss Bank, Citibank, Barclays Bank, BMW, Deutsche bank, etc.
