Use accept printer1 and then do enable printer1
You can also telnet into the jetadmin server and check the gateway and subnet mask of the print server.

We have a HP 9000/712 with HP-UX 10.20 that is our printer server.
The printers are HP printers with Jet-direct interfaces, Jetadmin is used to manage them.

When checking the print-queues with 'lpstat -t' i saw a lot of jobs that are queued for one printer. The printer does not appear in the list of available printer, so I'm assuming it is disabled.

When I tried to enable it, I got the error message mentioned above.

I can ping the JetDirect card, and the printer is online. How do I get this printer to work?

The directory is where the printer file is suppose to reside is gone. This is why the "disappear' message. Create the file and then remove it. You can add back in once it has been removed.

The printer file has disappeared is why you get the message. Create a file with that printer name in /etc/lp/interface (if it does not exist). From here you should be able to remove and then readd

Frank, did this printer work in the past with the same spooler configuration? If so, you can use SAM -> Printers and Plotters -> LP Spooler -> Save/Restore Printer Configuration. Check out what printers are displayed on this screen. The list contains only recognized printers. You probably wont see your printer in this list. If your spooler configuration has been corrupted, you can restore the old one from this screen.

Tony

The message means that the printer's entry in '/var/spool/lp/qstatus' has disappeared.

I have known corruptions of this type to occur when /var has become full - is this the case?

Ensure that you have the relevant lp subsystem patch installed:-

PHCO_21611 for 11.00
PHCO_18779 for 10.20.

To fix it, try accept and tnen enable. If this doesn't work, you will have to remove the queue and recreate it.
