This is usually caused by an old copy of the STM product, a partially installed STM product, or possibly a hardware problem. Check the STM logs with:

echo "sal" | cstm

This should identify the problem. It's always a good idea to download and install the latest version of the diagnostics:

http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B6191AAE

Hi,

One of our vpars, is using loads of CPU. When checking with glance, i can see that the "purp" is STM.

After searching the web for a while, i found this:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=185239

This did'nt help me much.

Any ideas??

OS: HP-UX 11.11 (SupportPlus sept 2005)

Please check the attachment for output from swlist -l fileset and top.

Johnny

Hi Johnny,
I would think the most likely cause in this case is a hardware problem. Can these STM processes be killed? How were they started, automatically or by hand?

What did command Bill mentioned show?

You have a recent version of OnlineDiags (not the latest, but still a currently supported one) so unless there's a problem with the installation of that I don't think upgrading will help.

If you run STM by hand, does it work, and can you exit it?

Does glance or tusc show what these processes are spending their time doing?

Andrew

Hi,

Bill's sugestion did not show anything within the logs. ;(
I have killed the processes by hand, and i'm pretty sure that the stm processes where started automaticly.

I think i'll wait and see whats happends, and i'll keep in mind that there might be a hardware problem.

Is there any way for me to show, if there is an hardware error?

Johnny
Hi Johnny,
If you can kill the processes, that makes it less likely to be a hardware problem.

I'd recommend tracking down what is actually starting up STM, and what commands it is running. Then see if running that command from the command line has the same effect.

Andrew

There is two things that sould be done.

We are running this on a SuperDome cluster and i have scheduled a Diag. upgrade. Then HP recomended to upgrade the firmware as well. So this is the current solution.

Thanks,

Johnny
