I am running hpux 10.20 and have several remote printers. They are Okidata 320's and 321's using an oki lan card in them. They are set up as remote printers. When I do an lpstat and all printers are fine, I have no problems. But if one of the Oki's are offline or down for some reason, I do an lpstat and it hangs for about 3 minutes before it moves on. I know that it is searching for the oki printer that is off line. I have been told that there is not a setting to change the wait time on this. I would like it to look, if its not there, just tell me.....dont search for 3 minutes. I would sure think there would be? Can I create a command that wouldnt search for these remote printers but will check the other printers. Then create a command that would search just remote printers? I see there is a switch for the lpstat command (-i) says Inhibit the reporting of remote status. I tried it and it did nothing for me. They are on the network, some are hp jet direct too. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure this applies to your situation but I also run OKI 320s and 3410s, with serial cards in them. They are connected to DTCs.

I don't have the problem you describe.

I set up the printers using SAM:

Sam/Printers and Plotters/LP Spooler
/Printers and Plotters/Actions
/Add Local/Add With Nonstandard Device.

Fred
I just re-read your message, you are using LAN cards, that's different I would think.
