Empty lines in top

Hi,

On one HPUX 10.10 system (K250) we've got two processes which show up in top with a blank line beneath them, i don't think it's something to worry about it's just that i've never seen this behaviour before and can't explain it ... anybody can?

Hi, Danny!

Simply looks like a formatting problem due to the fact that the procs have cum. CPU time larger that 999.99.

Nothing Yuu should really care about... :-)

Now that's a Fully Loaded Server!

4.5+, what's the response time on that beast?

I would be concerned with the amount of CPU time that the top two processes have consumed. But then again, I do not know how long the server has been up without a reboot either. Has it been more than three months????

Hi Danny,

Not to worry about this simple formatting problem, but...
I think that you should try determining the reason for having a run-queue that high on a nearly idle system.
See the line near the top showing "Load averages: 4.52, 4.70, 4.67"

It would be interesting to analyze disk I/O with 'sar' to try determining what's going wrong.

Hi,

Funny, i didn't even notice the load ... yes this is a busy little bastard! The uptime is 101 days now, the top process (oninit) is an informix database.
I am planning on a little research on the performance, but it's not top priority ...
I thought the empty lines were a format thing already, thanks for the affirmation.

Hi Danny,

A quick way to check for a 'run-queue' is by using 'uptime'. It should be one of the first commands run on a slow system. But we all underestimate that one, don't we?

Install the latest patches for top (PHCO_14306 (FOR 10.20)and General ReleasePatches for HP-UX). These will help out in the formatting issue and others.
