Modifications to Sendmail

I need to change the mail gateway that sendmail is using. Currently we have a DNS entry for mailgw. I can not change the DNS entry. I do not want to modify the etc/host file. Can I change the entry in sendmail.cf "Smart" relay host from Dsmailgw to Dsnewgw ? Do I need to do anything else?

Hi Mark,

After you make the change to sendmail.cf you'd have to bounce sendmail.
/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start

No, all you need to change is DS and all mail will now be forwarded to this host. Restart sendmail and youre done.

Yes you can modify the DS macro in "sendmail.cf". Make sure you give it a full domain name. And "sendmail" has to be restarted after the change.

This is pretty easy. Simply change the DS macro to your new gateway. Be sure to use a FQDN

DSyour.domain.here.com

Then stop sendmail and restart it.
