Data migration

Hello,

I have a N4000 connected to XP256 that is up and running. This is up for lease and we need to return this
to HP. I also have a new N 4000 with FC60 disk storage.

I need to transfer data from the old N to the new N.
Any idea ?...

Option 1 - Connect the XP256 and FC60 to the new N and do a mirror and then later break the mirror. I don't believe i have enough controllers on the new N to do this.

Option 2 - Tape backup and restore / copy the data over the network.

Aany thoughts ?.

Use the network option, it is faster. Check your other post.

Use NFS
On the server that you are returning export the data dirs and on the other server mount them, Then on the mounted server cd into the mounted dir and :-
find .|cpio -pudvm /

Hi,
If you have fibre channel interface, it doesn't matter the number of controller, I think. You can also do file system copy method, if you connect the XP256 and FC60
If you use network copy(NFS or rcp), you can get about 10 - 12 G/hour.

In a word - rdist. A very nice utility which will allow you to map things from anywhere to anywhere via the network. Can't say enough good things about it. PD version works between different vendors machines too. If you want to see more of my praises on this, just do a search on 'rdist' in the forums. Worth the time.

Hi there.
It depends on the kind of nackup drives and the backup software. If you have OmniBack
and DLT drives, take the tape backup, if not, take Paula's solution ( and don't forget to assign the points to her ).
