Hello,
I would like to know if there is a common practice or methodology that HPUX admins follow when adding network printers that do not have appropriate drivers. My problem is I am trying to add a networked printer (HP LJ4200)through hppi and the message I get when I do so is "The given printer does not have the Model Script/PrinterList
entry associated with it." I know I will run into this again down the road so any advise would be greatly appreciated. I was going to start trying just picking some of the more generic drivers and see if that works but thought I would post the question first. Thank you in advance for any comments.

Chad
The standard practice is to visit this site:
http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/index2.html
and get the latest and greatest model scripts that may or may not be available in the current JetDirect release.
... and part B of your question is what do you do if there are no model scripts? This is especially true if you are running a non-HP printer that emulates the JetDirect (port 9100) protocol. In that case, check with the printer vendor for a compatible model script but the typical answer is to choose an HP model script that is closest and try it -- rinse and repeat until you find one that works well (enough). Don't complain to HP if this doesn't work exactly to your liking because it would be state-of-art-stupid for them to develop model scripts for their direct (printer) competitors. The good news is that I have always been able to find a script that I could modify to make it work well enough. The really tough ones are the non-HP multi-function devices.
