Some of the newer systems MIGHT let you do OLAR (On Line Addition / Replacement) for processor boards but I'm not sure. I think most systems use processor boards with multiple processors, I think usually 2, per board, so you'd have to power down the whole processor board which wouldn't be easy.

Easiest thing: Power down the whole machine.

The OS will "turn off" a processor if it is logging errors. It cannot be done manually (maybe on the new systems).

HTH
Marty

Hello again,

The newest servers I have are N4000, but this is what I know about this:

The server must be powered off to replace a CPU.

The server can sustain a CPU going down and continue on, but if a CPU replacement isn't immediately possible, then the CPU should be deconfigured.

The CPU can be deconfigured through the GSP.

Hope this helps

Chris

Ramesh,

Is is possible to deactivate processors using ICOD. But you cannot do maintenance while the system is running.

ICOD (Instant capacity on demand) is a product to be purchased seperately.

-Sri
