      <description>Dear Gurus,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;syslog&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;May 21 14:18:47 HCANP vmunix: SCSI TAPE: dev = 0xcd000000 I/O error during clo&lt;BR /&gt;se&lt;BR /&gt;May 21 14:24:47 HCANP vmunix: SCSI TAPE: dev = 0xcd000000 I/O error during clo&lt;BR /&gt;se  &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Above mentioned error is coming while taking backup and it ends intermediately with console error "end of tape".Tried with new tape.Still problem repeats.       <description>Dears,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;  Tried with new cleaning and data cartridge still problem repeats.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;DAT drive model:SONY SDT9000&lt;BR /&gt;DATA Cartridge :HP DDS2&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Output of "ll /dev/rmt|grep cd" command is nothing.The tape devie file used is "/dev/rmt/0m"&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;Anand</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Are you sure you are using the correct tapes, DDS2?&lt;BR /&gt;Check tape state with ioscan:&lt;BR /&gt;- ioscan -fnCtape&lt;BR /&gt;Can you perform some tests on the tape device:&lt;BR /&gt;- Rewind tape (mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rew )&lt;BR /&gt;- tar cvf /dev/rmt/0mn /stand/vmunix&lt;BR /&gt;- tar rvf /dev/rmt/0mn /etc/profile&lt;BR /&gt;- Rewind tape&lt;BR /&gt;- check contents of tape: tar tvf /dev/rmt/0m&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Darrel&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Anand,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The error that it is failing with is that it is reaching the end of the tape. It could be that somebody has put some big files in recently which has made the backup a bit bigger, thus the backup is running out of tape. Try doing it in 2 bits, ie the database (if you have one) over night and the flat files during the day.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;JASH</description>

      <description>I am using DDS2 cartridge only and I could able to take backup of very small size files.But if any big size(approximately more than 10k block size)file comes then it starts giving this error message. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;Anand</description>

      <description>The error message indicates usually a bad drive.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If cleaning is not helpful, replace the drive.</description>

      <description>I think Torsten has it - bad drive.  You can check that out with&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#dd if=&lt;SOME big="" file=""&gt; of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=8192 (or maybe even bigger)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Do you really need to use 0m?  0h should give more data pn the tape.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/SOME&gt;</description>
