Hi guys, i wanted to ask about printer configuration>
# lpadmin -p laser -mhplj4 -v/dev/lp
Now my question is that okay p is the name of the new printer i will be assigning. The mhplj4 is the interface program and the device file is v/dev/lp.
Now, what is an interface program and the device file for the printer. I guess i will make it with
#insf -e once i attach it on a live system. So where should i browse to see that the device file has been made. What about /dev/lp directory.
Kindly, clear me on this. Thanks.

Check in /etc/lp/interface directory.

Interface
ll /etc/lp/printername
device
lpstat -t
check it

all for printer

cd /var/spool/lp
find . -follow|grep -i laser

It should all be made for you

You need to do nothing else
