My post got lost

Guys I have posted a query yesterday and got replies back, but this morning when I logged in I got a message that my post have been removed. How could this may have happened???

1) Violation of one (or more) of the Forum rules resulting in a deliberate deletion by a moderator.
2) Accidental deletion by a moderator.

I saw the thread I think and can not see why it was deleted.

I'm emailing someone in ITRC management who has your registered email address and if he has time will explain what happened.

Accidents are rare. Thats why I think it should be cleared up.

No it was one of the other post, not this one, that post had nothing wrong in it, however i really think it was deleted accidently.

Thanks for your follow up Steven, I would have thought that was a duplicate post or an accidental delete.

I have got one question for you, I have had a really good response about this question but I'm still not exactly sure about the root cause of this problem, may be you can provide more input to help me build my knowledge.

Q. A usera is attempting to telnet to an unix server using the hostname but is unable to connect. The usera is able to ping the IP address of the unix server but when they try and telnet to the IP address it also fails. However USERB is able to both ping and telnet to the server from his PC with no problems.The hint is that this problem doesn't relate to unix machine as telnet is enabled and the usera used to telnet without any problems. Explain the steps you would take to diagnose this problem.

Mind you the problem is not with the telnet as usera used to telnet o.k but out of the blue he now has a problem, although when he does a ping to unix machine it works, so it can't be a router issue or would it be one of the possible problem?. A hint that I have been given for this answer is that there is something wrong in the networking, but what is wrong?? In one of the responses that I had from our team member was fairly close to resolve the answer, that response was (If the user trying to telnet is on another subnet, the likely cause is router restrictions). But again that answer didn't help me because I was told that usera is able to ping, so can it still be a router restriction??

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Based on what you post there is a networking issue a hand.

lanscan
ifconfig all lan's listed

Check the cnfiguration and look for conflicts or duplicate ip addresses.

Check the logs of both systems after trying a telnet transaction. All will be evident from the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log files.
