Hello All,

I am not sure I am posting this in the right forum. I have posted a similar topic between oracle and mssql.

I was an oracle dba and hpunix admin for 4 years, I also had some mssql and vb experimence.

I am thinking to accept a competitive job offer to be a "progress rdbms application admin", the system is IBM Unix OS.

Could you let me know the pros and cons of going to another slight different direction regarding to career development. I need to see a career consultant.

It is a very important decision and I value your opinons a lot, please also be aware I am based in USA.

Jane
Jane -- There are a lot of factors involved in such a question.

1) Difference in company stability?

2) Your level of risk tolerance

3) Your current working relationship with your management

Now, with regards to changing content in your job, questions to ask the new company:

1) What type of support database do you have with known problem/resolution?

2) What type of purchased support do you have with progress?

3) What type of training are they willing to give you in the transition?

4) How much of a self starter are you?

Shalom Jane,

Its a new thing an builds on the skills you have. If it pays well I'd say go for it, taking into account the factors in the first response.

if you liked being an hp admin and an oracle dba, that skill set seems pretty marketable and you can probably make good money doing that as well.

Depends on what you like doing to earn money!!

Good Luck,

SEP
