JASH: No, it does not remain in the ioscan. The two in the ioscan are the ones that I want to keep.

Sally,

Ok, looking at the amount of redundant tape drive special files you have, it may well be worth removing the ones not on ioscan. Most of them date to 2004, or before, so removing them would not be the problem I first panicked about!

Regards,

JASH
Thanks JASH...can I jsut delete them, or do I have to rmsf each and every file? Do I include those C18d0txxx files as well?

Sally, rmsf the ones you don't want - so that you don't get polling errors, it's cleaner than just deleting the special files with "rm".

Sally,

You can use rmsf with the -H option to specify a hardware path or you can specify the device file itself, like this:

rmsf /dev/rmt/[0123]*

Just make sure you get the right ones!

Pete

Sally,

Might be worth using your ls /dev/rmt/* to create a file of the ones you need to delete, then do a "for i in...." script. It would be quicker, just make sure you take out the ones you want to keep.

Regards,

JASH
