Use the mv command.

# mv dir1 dir2

# man mv

will give you lots of information.

Hi,
There is no rename command as such in UNIX as it is there in DOS/WINDOWS. But the renaming can be achieved using "move" command.

# mv file1 file2

This will do the trick.
