HP-UX 11.x Licensing questions

I have some questions regarding HP-UX 11x licensing for servers. Are HP-UX licenses bound to a machine (Serial No.) or to the owner? I know with workstations that the license is bound to the machine only, but how about servers?

Background is this: I bought two used HP V-Class servers, one V2500 and one V2600. Both systems can't run with HP-UX prior to 11.x, and there is no other operating system for these machines so I assume that all V2500s and V2600s have been sold with a version of HP-UX 11.x. So with the used machines, am I allowed to run a version of HP-UX 11.x on them?

Benjamin

The license is tied to the server. You certainly are allowed to run 11.x on both of your used servers.
To my knowledge HP-UX license is bound to the machine/serial number.

Owner and other details are for post sales support.

sks

Hi,

As all other says HP server licensing is bound to Server not to owner.
You can install HPUX 11.X on this.

Licence is also bound to media for additional product.

Sunil

My understanding is that systems come with a license to use HP-UX. I don't think that conveys if it is resold. I suggest that you contact HP sales directly. See 3.f. and 4.a. at: http://www.software.hp.com/disclaimer.html

Your actual HP software license agreement is the best place to look.

That sounds like the old userbound licensing that was used with 10.20 and earlier. These releases were separated in versions for 700 and 800, and there were differences in licensing schemes also. From what I know now since 11.00 the licensing is similar for both 700 and 800.

Benjamin
