Hello,

I just have a simple question. My company owns a Proliant ML350 G2 which was delivered at the time we bought it with one processor.

As the workload on this computer increases and will still increase in the future, I would like to add a new processor, and maybe change in fact both processors with 2 P3 1.4ghz ( Maximum processors accepted by this computer if I am correct ).

Do I need to do anything else in addition of buying those processors to upgrade my system or if I just buy 2 p3 1.4ghz I just put them in the machine and reboot and that should work straight away ???

Thank you

Cheers

Vincent

Vincent,

Well, in HP-UX land (where you've happened to post), there are usually board upgrades and/or firmware upgrades required to handle the new processors. That, I think, would be the sort of thing to be on the lookout for.

Most likely this question will get moved very soon to the the MS/PC forum. If that doesn't happen soon enough, I would suggest re-posting over there.

And . . . good luck!

Pete

Gee, I didn't know proliants could run HP-UX.

Just buy the right processor, down the server, install it and turn it on.

If you are using Linux, you will need to use a multi proc or smp kernel

SEP

I beleive that the heatsink & VRM are included with the CPU, so I would think that all you would have to do would be to drop the new CPU in, and start it up.

And yes, the 1.4GHz PIII is the fastest accepted by this model.

Josh
