Error in syslog.log

Hi,

I got the following messages in the syslog.log. Is it harmful to my system ? Do I need to turn something off and how can I do that if necessary ?

Aug 21 11:12:07 hostname bootpd[20997]:
Aug 21 11:12:07 hostname bootpd[20997]: reading "/etc/bootptab"
Aug 21 11:12:07 hostname bootpd[20997]: read 1 entries from "/etc/bootptab"
Aug 21 11:12:07 hostname bootpd[20997]: reading "/etc/dhcpdeny"
Aug 21 11:12:07 hostname bootpd[20997]: error opening "/etc/dhcpdeny": No such file or directory

I am running HP-UX 11i without DHCP.

Hi Patrick,
If memory serves, that file being "missing" doesn't matter. (especially if DHCP is not enabled) I believe that note is a generic call by bootpd during startup.
I would check man boopd for more details.

It's harmless. If you're not servicing any bootstrap protocol you can turn it off.
# vi /etc/inetd.conf
===> Comment the line ..
#bootps dgram udp wait root /usr/lbin/bootpd bootpd
# inetd -c
===> Re-read inetd.conf

Hmmm... Boopd I wonder if that is the Betty Boop startup demon, I mean daemon. ;)
I think I'll change that to "bootpd" oops.
