A volume group includes 90 physical disk, most of them are accessed by ORACLE in raw mode.

The max_async_ports kernel parameter has got its default value (50). Should I increase ?

Thanx in advance

To determine a suitable value for max_async_ports:

Determine how many ports are required for each application and/or process that uses asynchronous disk I/O.

Determine which of these applications will be running simultaneously as separate processes. Also determine whether multiple copies of an application will be running at the same time as separate processes.

Based on these numbers, determine the maximum number of open ports to the asynchronous disk driver that will be needed by all processes any given time to obtain a reasonable total.

Set max_async_ports to a value that is not less than this number.

Hope this helps
Berlene

Hi Berlene.

When I post a message in forums is because I need more info than help or manual pages.

I realized you copied and pasted the SAM help.

Damian,

It's nice to see you check the documentation first, but perhaps you could be more informative and let us know what part of Berlene's comments or the man page you are having trouble with ?

ps all HP participation on this forum as far as I'm aware is done voluntarily and in addition to our main suport roles.

Actually, I found this information from on-line documentation, Configurable Kernel Parameters, at

http://docs.hp.com//hpux/onlinedocs/os/KCparams.OverviewAll.html

All I can do is point out the information you need to make your own decisions concerning your system. I would not presume to dictate :)

Berlene
