Rita

Thanks for the info. We already have ghostscript in our system. But we found the ghostscript not very reliable -- certain postscript files cannot be opened but we were able to print it out & view it on PC's version of postscript viewer.

I would like to get the ImageView working on Postscript to have a try --- our users use PostScript Files extensively everyday.

System : B2000, HP-UX 10.20,CDE vers 1.0

From the "HP CDE Getting Started Guide", Chapter 4 "Addt'l Desktop Applns & Enhancements", page 4-5. It is stated that HP has made additional enhancements to the IMAGEVIEW application to allow it to open/view a POSTSCRIPT file.

Does anybody know how to set this up ? Or is this a mis-print in HP's manual ?

NOTE : ImageView is avail under "Appln Mgr" - "Digital Media" - "ImageView".

I'm not familiar with this - but someone else may supply you that info..

But, here's an alternative in case you need it ...Ghostscript. We use to translate files from one format to another (and postscript is used alot here), we have found it very handy...and since you can get it free..the price is right too. You can go to any HPUX archive porting site; here's one.

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/

/rcw

The information about imageview is a misprint and should have been corrected. At one time, under HP-UX 9.x, there, there was a version of imageview delivered with the MPower product that could display PostScript. It did so in cooperation with a 3rd party product. The 3rd party vendor went out of business before HP-UX 10.* was released and apparently the documentation was not updated to reflect this. Other PostScript functionality that disappeared at 10.x was the ability to print PostScript to a non-PostScript printer. This again, was a function of MPower, through the SharedPrint product, and the vendor went out of business.

As the previous poster stated, GhostView is the only free PostScript viewer for Unix. I believe that there are some commercial PostScript viewers as well, but I don't have any pointers to them at the moment.
