Netscape Browser

In Netscape Messenger when I click on a message in the hp forum newsletter or in dtmail when I cut and paste a web address, I go to the hp forum but I see no message. I see header material and buttons for actions like new message but I see no message. I have hp-ux 11i and Netscape 4.79. Does anyone know what my problem is?

Also, in Messenger, I sometimes have a message where the header will print but the body will not. Usually, the body is in white when it will not print but it does print sometimes when the body is in white. I think that may be related to the use of frames by the sender. Is there a solution?

Thanks for your help.

Sam

Since the Sept 20th upgrade of the Forums, Netscape under HP-UX has ceased to function. I currently have switched over to Mozilla, which seems to work fairly well for the most part and is virtually indistinguishable from Netscape:

http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/mozilla/index.html

Pete

Sam,

It's in the (e)mail! Hopefully, you'll get it installed, it will cure your problem and you'll be able to see this.

Pete

Actually,

About 4 weeks ago Mozilla began to function correctly with itrc.

Netscape still has open issues and its pretty old. I'd try mozilla fresh. Make sure it can accept cookies.

Pete, I think you should try mozilla for HP-UX again.

SEP

SEP,

I use Mozilla every day. It works for the most part but I have to shut it down completely every couple of hours and restart it. I'm not a "web" kind of guy so I don't really know how to describe this problem but it stops interpreting the symbols (the "hats" for example), and instead of displaying the symbol it displays the description (this person has earned blah, blah points, for example). Once it starts doing that, it gets progressively worse until it actually ceases to function at all.

I've mentioned it in Dan's "whining" thread several times and like to think that it will get better.

Pete

All,

Poor Sam here has been trying to install Mozilla and it's associated dependencies so that he can actually see the answers we're trying to give him. In the meantime, questions and answers need to be passed via email to jsmcknight@jsmck.com.

Here's my last correspondence from Sam:

From hp, I downloaded the software depot for the Gnome toolkit

B6852BA+B6848BA-r2-PA_11.X.depot

for my computer (C3600, hp-ux 11i, PA-RISC). Then, I tried two approaches:
First, I executed the command

swinstall -v -s <DEPOT_NAME_WITH_PATH>

In the install window, I chose both the B6852BA and B6848BA to install. The
installation failed when swinstall found a number of files missing. I cleaned up
all the files installed. Second, I tried hp's recommendation of

swinstall -x mount_all_filesystems=false -s \
/path.../B6852BA+B6848BA-r2-PA_11.X.depot \*

This time, the error messages were similar. Many files could not be installed
because they were not in the depot, and the installation failed.

Incidentally, the installation of the gnome application seems to be
important beyond Mozilla because it appears I need it to run the cd writing
software.

Is it time to put in a software call? Of course, there is a problem here
because hp offers but does not support the gnome application. I would appreciate
your recommendations.

Thanks for your help.

If any of you have suggestions for Sam, would you please email them to him at jsmcknight@jsmck.com

Thanks all,

Pete</DEPOT_NAME_WITH_PATH>
