I just inherited an old 817s with HP-UX 9. Is there much that I will be able to do with this machine? Any suggestions or thoughts. My background is with MPE and Windows based products.

Hello,

9.x is not y2k compliant. In order to run any timerelated application (and those are almost all of them) on this box I would recommend to upgrade to 10.x and install the appropiate patches on the box.

The filesystem structure changed from 9.x to 10.x/11.x so that box wouldn't even do too good as a learning crash and burn box.

Steffi is right, but you'll need at least 16Mb RAM to be able to load 10.x O/S.
I know that some early 817s only have 8Mb
