    <description>Dear Sirs,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;We run hpux model 9000/800/L3000-7x server. It is a 4 cpu box. The top command output is:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Load averages: 0.96, 1.00, 0.96&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;376 processes: 263 sleeping, 113 running&lt;BR /&gt;Cpu states:&lt;BR /&gt;CPU   LOAD   USER   NICE    SYS   IDLE  BLOCK  SWAIT   INTR   SSYS&lt;BR /&gt; 0    1.12  60.2%   0.0%  19.7%  20.1%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%&lt;BR /&gt; 1    0.95  45.1%   0.0%  31.9%  23.0%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%&lt;BR /&gt; 2    1.16  51.0%   0.0%  27.8%  21.3%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%&lt;BR /&gt; 3    0.60  35.4%   0.0%  52.0%  12.6%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%&lt;BR /&gt;---   ----  -----  -----  -----  -----  -----  -----  -----  -----&lt;BR /&gt;avg   0.96  47.9%   0.0%  32.8%  19.3%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%   0.0%&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Is load average showing good or some issue ?&lt;BR /&gt;Also the other readings showing okay ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks,&lt;BR /&gt;Shiv&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>It looks OK to me, Don't worry about that..&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The book UNIX Power Tools [POL97], tell us on p.726 The CPU:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;    The load average tries to measure the number of active processes at any time. As a measure of CPU utilization, the load average is simplistic, poorly defined, but far from useless.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt; The load average is the sum of the run queue length and the number of jobs currently running on the CPUs. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;-Arun</description>

      <description>hi shiv,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Average looks ok!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;1.12 + 0.95 + 1.16 + 0.60 = 3.83&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;3.83 / 4 = 0.96&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Glance would be able to clarify this more.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;regards&lt;BR /&gt;yogeeraj</description>

      <description>Top may be not correct always. Use glance to find exact cpu %.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;To find individual cpu% for process then,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# UNIX95= ps -efo pcpu,pid,comm&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;hth.</description>
