What happens when ninode reach maximum utilization?

Hi there,

Anyone out there ever experience when ninode useage reaches maximum utilzation. My server is running oracle 8.0.5.2. with SAP 4.5 with current ninide value at 8192, memory is 16 GB. It hit max today but the system rolls on. Should I increase this value further?

Hi,

Have a look in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log, you probably have messages like:
vmunix: ninode: table is full
or similar.

The default formula for ninode is nproc+48+maxusers+(2*npty) but, as it is limited by memory only, it could be increased according to your needs.
'sar -v ' will tell you where you are.

I don't see and vmunix message in the syslog. Probably it was a false alarm. Anyway, if it really happens, will it halt the oracle as when nfile reaches maximum utilization.
