I second the teraterm recommendation. It has been a long time since I used it, but anything is better than the Microsoft version. Teraterm was a pretty good terminal emulator. Also, it is not just HP that has trouble with Microsofts telnet. Try using it on a VMS box sometime.
Jim Trice

When I use the telnet client comes with NT to connect to a HP-UX 11.0 system, the emulation doesn't work quite right, especially in vi. It can't refresh the screen properly and the lines got overwritten when scrolling down. I tried everything and opened a call with support center. They told me it's a problem with NT. I just want to find out if anyone else is having the same problem and how do you fix it?

Thanks
Henry

You might want to try using a different TERM variable like xterm . Better still get a commercial X package like Exceed or reflection .

Yes, the NT telnet program is a piece of junk. I use it only when absolutely necessary. If you want a good telnet client for HP, try WRQs Reflection 2 product.

http://www.wrq.com

Henry,

With NT telnet, under the "Terminal" option make sure you set the emulation to "vt100/ansi", then at the shell prompt do

export TERM=ansi

after that you should be able to clear the screen at least.

It is true that the telnet program that came with NT isn't anything great, so get a commercial one if you could.

Regards,
Philip

Hi Henry,

I've have lots of NT and WIN95/98 machines which users use default windows telnet. It is costly to install 3rd partly telnet sw on all these machine, so we had to live with it. I've observe a trick that might be helpful.

When the telnet screen is "jumble", press <CTRL> + l which will refresh the screen.

Hopes this help

Lai</CTRL>

Funny thing is that Sun, a not so friendly competitor of Microsoft, its Solaris works perfectly with NT telnet client whereas HP, a primier Microsoft partner, have so many compatibility issues.

I guess I just have to live with it.

Thank you all for your inputs.
