Those 4 CDs are application CDs.

YOu need to have the OS-Core CD to start the installation.

check for that Core OS CD.

10.20 is discontinued by HP.i am not sure whether you can re-order for the media kit.

check with the local HP office.

cold installation of HPUX 10.20

I should reinstall the HP-UX 10.20 (cold installation) on one of my old ws HP9000/785. I found the 4 CDs "hp-ux 10.20 application software." (but I haven't the "istallation Guide for 10.20 :( ). When I try to boot from the first CD I get a msg:

"IPL error: bad LIF magic: not valid LIF volume."

I imagine that this CD isn't bootable (?).
Somebody know where I can find the correct Installation Guide? What are the correct CD's sets for cold installation of HP-UX 10.20? Can I download its ISO images?

Thank you very much for your cooperation. It is appreciated.

Hi,

you cannot boot off the application CDs.

You need a "Core OS and Install" CD.

Regards,
Bernhard

Oleg,

Sounds to me like you've got the application CDs rather than the Core/OS install CD. The apps CDs aren't bootable (which is the error you're seeing) because they're loaded with swinstall after the initial installation. You need to find the Core/OS install CD. And, while you're at it, you should really consider installing a supported release like 11.0 or (preferably) 11i.

Pete

As far as I know, HP has not published the ISO images for the CDs.

The only way I know of to get HP-UX 10.20 now is to know someone that may have the CDs or to see if you can get them from someone like a 3rd party reseller of HP stuff.

You can't get Core OS cd's from HP on unsupported operating systems. I know your hardware is old and may not be able to run 11.00.

I have 10.20 cd's here, but I know HP would be very unhappy with me if I just dropped them in the mail.

License violation, which I am NOT willing to do.

SEP
