topic Digging hp-ux in Operating System - HP-UX

Hello everyone,

I'm kind of new to HP-UX (previous Linux experience) and I really enjoy working with the OS. I read a couple of books and I'm still learning.

I'm starting to hang out around the forums. I really like them and I learn a lot just by reading other people's questions. I also like the "points" feautre. Well, there aren't any newbie forums (so I could help junior SysAdmins and earn points :) but I'll try to help whenever I can.

I would like to get more into HP-UX. Can anyone give me tips? Any particular magazine? Any particular email newsletter? Any other forum? I used to visit USENET (comp.sys.hp.hpux) but now I find the hp forums more "happening". Don't you think?

Thanks in advance and watch out for my score! :p

Jorge

Hi Jorge,

Welcome to the forums.

docs.hp.com cannot be forgotten. You can almost find all the technical documentation about HP-UX there.

-Sri

ITRC forums are the best place to get more into HPUX.

Also look at Dutchworks site which is a good newsgroup.
check this link
http://hpux.tn.tudelft.nl/

I would say this:

You are in the right place to learn.

Read the posts. Read the answers that get 10 points.

btw there is a nice linux forum.

I would say that at some point you are going to want to get some hands on experience. The best way is to get hold of a throwaway box, install the OS and starty trying things.

A lot of what I learned is hands on the keyboard. I do manage to solve some problems by doing itrc searches, but its a good idea to try and read them and see if they make sense.

I would say a good book is HP Certified by Raqeef.

But hands on is the only way to get really good.

SEP

Hi Jorge.
Welcome to the forums.
Just my 2 ct :
I am a member of this forum for some time now.
Some of the people here know the stuff better than HP support.

So for daring problems do :
Step 1 call HP support
Step 2 to be immediately executed after step 1
post your question for help and mark
the email reply box.
Step 3 Wait for replies from both sides and
decide, what to do.

Go through the postings and look at the member profiles. In their 8 to 10-points list you will find valuable answers for many questions
and really good ideas.

Rgds
Alexander M. Ermes
BTW
We will keep an eye on your score as long as you take care of the replies in the right way.
Jorge,

You really don't have to go much further than these forums. Since really getting into the forums I think I have had to make one service call, everything else I have found here. I like seeing all the different points of view in the replies.
Before the forums I read the "HP Certified" book, really easy to follow as far as technical books go.
The people here go above and beyond when it comes to helping out.

Good luck....
Jim

Hi Jorge,

so you are a newbie to this forum - Welcome !!!!
Our knowledge grows with ervery new member.
Read this first about the forum -->http://66.34.90.71/ITRCForumsEtiquette/

These guideline are the etiquettes of the forum and our holy bible.

But back know to your question. You look for more info/knowledge about HP-UX. I must give you good news. YOU ARE AT THE END OF YOUR SEARCH!! (like Moses, who found the holy land)

Are you working with HP-UX at work and has your company a support contract? Then you can also use a collection of white papers called the "System Recovery Handbook". These are white papers written by HP Engineers to different themes. This is a good start to become familar with hp-ux. You can found it here -->http://www5.itrc.hp.com/service/iv/node.do?node=prod%2FWW_Start%2FN1%7C16

Have a good day !!!

Roland
