HP-UX 11.11 is telling me this:
$ man ls
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't find path for shared library: libncurses.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory
sh: 2513 Abort(coredump)
But why? Libncurses is not even needed to run man - obviously not on this system either:
$ ldd /usr/bin/man
/usr/lib/libc.2 =>      /usr/lib/libc.2
/usr/lib/libdld.2 =>    /usr/lib/libdld.2
/usr/lib/libc.2 =>      /usr/lib/libc.2

Any idea what can be wrong here?

make sure you are running /usr/bin/man
because as you said it doesnt need libncurses.sl

Could be your shell has got screwed up - ive seen it happen before, inexplicable behaviour. Try logging out then in again.
