Hi all,

I was not able to ftp to my server from another network( of 172.16.0.0). The server is in different network ( having ip in 204.160.249.0 Seg.)

So the I have modified the /var/adm/inetd.sec file to allow the 172.16 seg. to do ftp.

normally telnet was working.

after then i restarted the inetd service by inetd -c.

still the FTP access for the 172 seg. is not working where as the 204 seg is able to ftp.

Is there any thing I am making mistake or the process takes some time..
Regards,
Senthil KPS

Hi,

Troubleshooting of network problems may be complex since there are a lot of places for misconfiguration.

What happens when you try establishing connection from 172 network? If there is no reply at all, check if there are no firewalls between your client and FTP server. If you see something like "connection closed by foreign host", check syntax of your inetd.sec file (man inetd.sec)

Just my 2 cents.

BR,
Mihails

trye a telnet to the ftp port... Do you get a connection ?

Are you sure, you don't have any firewall b' networks ? or any intelligent switch :-) ?

BR,
Jannik

Do you have a standard logon shell? If not, is it included in /etc/shells?

/var/adm/syslog might be useful too with pam errors
