yves: K4xx and K5xx allow an HSC port upgrade, and two are available, 2-slot or 4-slot (K5xx allows a second 4-slot as well).

K2xx does not allow ANY expansion, and K3xx allows only the 2-slot HSC expansion.

All these expansion cards look the same on the outside, but for the 2-slot expansion (which you must have, with a K360), you will find that there are simply no connectors on the expansion card for the 3rd and 4th (#1 and #2) holes in the RF cover. It would have been better for HP to have built an RF sheild with only two holes for the 2-slot upgrade, to make this clear, but they didn't, and you are not the first to be confused.

If you need more slots, you can upgrade to a K460, and then buy the 4-slot expansion (which replaces the 2-slot expansion). For about the same money, you can get an RP5405, a 650MHz L-class that will solve many more problems than just the number of I/O slots.

Best Regards, --bmr

Hi,

In a K360 server (A5140A) we have the HSC expansion IO part with 4 slots : slot 3,2,1,0 (from top to down). Slot 3 and 2 are used with a 2 ports LAN card each. We'd like to add 2 more cards in slot 1 and 0 but it's written on the back panel on the slot itself "use slot 2 or 3"

Why this remark ?
Is it impossible to install a new card in slot 1 and 0 for any reason ? or is it just because now there is no card installed in those slots ?

Thanks for help,

Yves

Hi

If I remember correctly this marking is only for order of use - i.e. use 3 first then 2 etc.

Paula

Interesting! My Owner's Guide to the model K series says that the HSC I/O expansion is only available on the K400 systems. On the other hand, the same book only seems to cover K100, K200 and K400 so it probably predates the K360.

Anyway, if the card is there it certainly ought to be useable. There are no restrictions in the documentation that I can find.

Pete

Yves,
answer by yourself: shutdown host, disconnect power cable and pull expansion board out. I guess you'll see that there're simply no connectors for slots 0 and 1. Maybe this expansion board is designed to hold full size Visualize-48XP video card?
Eugeny
