Is there any software that would run on W2K or RH9 that would emulate HP-UX? I'm looking for something to play with while at home.

Thanks

Scott

Scott,

No - the closest you can come is to install Linux, but there are no HP-UX emulators - at least none that I know of.

Pete

Hi Scott,

there are no emulators, but how about a used workstation? There are a lot on the used or auction market, I'm sure.

There is X emulation, there is some UNIX emulation, but not a flavor specific emulation.

I've never worked on a work station. I've resigned my current position and unfortunately my new position won't let me get my hands on the servers. I was hoping to get something at home so I can stay on top of it as well as practice for my CSA.

Scott

There is also a product by ATT called UWIN which is a pretty good unix shell running on top of a windows product. It can be found here;

http://www.research.att.com/~dgk/uwin/

Scott, You should look at HP Testdrive ( http://testdrive.hp.com/ ) for looking around inside HP-UX systems or software development.

Otherwise, my general advice is to simply buy a small HP9000 A-Class system and work with that (I've done it quite often, and always enjoyed taking them apart *cough*).
Just watch out it's for supported for 11.23 september 2004 release so that You get to run the most current release.

If You're content with a ssh access to one of my boxes, we could also discuss this in private mail. I ignite them regularly, so breaking them is no issue.

Florian
