You cannot use MirrorDisk/UX in the MCOE, I think you should buy a seperate licence for MirrorDisk/UX.

Hello,

We would like to upgrade a customer from HPUX 11i v2 to the same version May 2005. He has MirrorDisk/UX installed and has vg00 mirrored between two disks. I understand that the Mission Critical DVD contains MirrorDisk/UX, however I wouldn't like to upgrade to MCOE, since it contains loads of other software unnecessary to him. I would like only MirrorDisk/UX from the MCOE bundle. How can I do this? I tried to upgrade to MCOE interactive mode (with -i option) but couldn't select specifically MirrorDisk/UX (B2491BA).

Kind Regards,
Vince

I think, you would not be able to do it. I think MCOE install will do that automatically.

(Not sure though)

Did you try following??

swlist -l product B2491BA @ "bundle"

Mirror/UX is available separately.

If you have a codeword installed for mirror/ux alone, update-ux should pick it up and you should not be forced to use the MCOE package.

Its well known what I think of upgrade-ux but I'm stating how its supposed to work according to my understanding.

SEP

Hello,

Update-ux does this:

* Reading source for file information.
NOTE: The filesystems in the filesystem table will not be checked
against those currently mounted because the
"mount_all_filesystems" option is set to "false".
ERROR: LVM Mirror option may be in use for logical volume
group /dev/vg00. I'd like this not to happen and just upgrades MirrorDisk/UX using the one in MCOE DVD. The customer has a licence (otherwise vg00 is not mirrored!) and it is found successfully in .codewords file.

Vince

Hi Vince

MirrorDisk/UX is a licensed product. If you have support agreement with HP, Codeword for new version shall be free or else you will have to purchase a new license. Without Codeword , you will not be able to see this product on install Media.

Regards
Mahesh

I missed that you are doing an upgrade. In that case, I would suggest that break the mirror, create copy of root disk and proceed. When you install MCOE, that shold install new mirror disk software by itself.

The customer has Foundation OE, not MCOE. I would like to upgrade using Foundation OE + MirrorDisk/UX if it is possible, so that I won't have to install MirrorDisk/UX afterwards and remirror. He has only MirrorDisk/UX as a feature from MCOE, that is why I don't want to upgrade to MCOE.

Vince

Vince,

You're going to have to:

1) break the mirrors
2) do the upgrade with Foundation OE
3) re-install MirrorDisk from MCOE - you will need a codeword in order to do this. You should be able to get a codeword from HP.

Pete
