Sendmail very long queue

Hi everybody

Can anyone tell me why do I have 7500 messages in /var/spool/mqueue? (OP: hp-ux 10.20).
Please help.

Check /var/adm/syslog/mail.log for more detailed information why the mails are stuck.

Also check if sendmail daemon is running.
If not start sendmail by /sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Hi:

Use 'mailq' to see the queued messages. You can delete undeliverd, old messages if you wish.

May be mails are not getting delivered. Check mail.log for details. You can delete them if you wich.

If there are lots of entries on mailq as root try sendmail -q

This is supposed to try and force queue delivery.

If that doesn't work you need to look at relay configuration:

DS
[IP of relay server]

in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf file

Your relay server might be rejecting mail, you find out like this.

/usr/sbin/sendmail -v -d8.99 -d38.99 myemail@mydomain.net

This will let you see connect rejects and stuff like that.

You also want to make sure networking is correct.

/etc/nsswitch.conf

Check that host resolution is working right with nslookup.

any errors, report back.
