Kernel build date and version

Hi all,

I'm interested in howto find out the kernel's
build date and/or version Number.

What for? To find out, which kernel I have bootet
when I have built some with different (static) kernel
parameters.

I do not mean "uname -r" as it displays only
B.11.11 or B.11.00 ...
what /stand/vmunix only shows the releases /versions of the patches installed.

echo boot_string/S|adb /stand/vmunix /dev/kmem

shows you which device and kernel you booted from.

A simple ls -l /stand/vmunix shows you the date it was built.

As for a version number, you need to keep track of this yourself. If you have several kernels you need to copy them to vmunix. so you can easily identify them. By default only 2 versions are kept;
vmunix (current) and vmunix.prev (previous or version -1).

Hi Carsten,

what kind of release version do you expect? HP-UX has no release version like e.g. Linux-2.5.56 or something like this. In HP-UX you have finer control since you know the release of the included patches ...

Concerning your question, you may try this (for 11.x):

echo "linkstamp?s" | adb /stand/vmunix

This at least gives your a timestamp when the kernel was built/linked.
