I have an application admin who is screaming about wanting Java Release 5.3 on my UNIX L2000 server running HP-UX 11.0. I freely admit to knowing nothing about Java and so here I am. Is there a version of this that runs on HP-UX. Does anyone have the product code? Do I have to order it - does it need a code word?? I told you I didn't know anything about Java! Thanks for the help!

Hi Paula,

Not sure what they mean be 5.3 - could that be a M$ version?

Anyway, the available Java versions for HP-UX are
1.2 1.3 & 1.4 being the most current.

They're all free & generally install into
/opt/java1.2
/opt/java1.3
/opt/java1.4
respectively. So you can have multiple versions on the system.

Rgds,
Jeff

Hi,

Pete sent you to the right place. The Java software is a free download there. We have to grab the latest version and install it pretty often for some of our Oracle apps. It's free and it doesn't require a reboot, so it is pretty painless.

As for the Release 5.3, I'm not sure what your apps admin is referring to, as the Java versions on the HP site go 1.3.X, 1.4.X, etc.

JP
Just remember not all apps use all versions of java. Oracle doesn't speak java 1.4.

Make sure you install all necssary patches as noted on this link.

http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/infolibrary/patches.html

P
