topic re-installing in Operating System - HP-UX

I've inherited an older HP 9000 server running HP-UX 11.00 (not sure on patch release to be honest) and due to variose reasons I've been ask to do a full reinstall of the server. I've reread the documentation several times and made a start today, only to fail at the first fence, when the boot manager comes up, after doing a search it does not list the cdrom drive. However if I boot up into hp 11, i can mount the cd quite happily. Any ideas ?
thanks

issues to look at:
- check the cabels.
- sometime it is not easy to see the cd in the boot manager. could you send the output of the search.
- you could use a ignite server if you have one.
- what type of machine is it.

BR,
Jannik

Have you tried to specifically search the hardware path of the CD drive?

Pete

the search is returning

Path Num Dev Path Device Type
P0 8/16/5.6 Random Access Media
P1 8/16/5.5 Random Access Media
P2 8/16/5.4 Random Access Media
P3 8/16/5.3 Random Access Media
P5 8/16/5.1 Random Access Media
P6 8/16/5.0 Sequential Media Access
P7 8/16/6.0 Lan Module

The label on the inside of the disk covers names the cd as 8/16/5.2 which as you can see does not show.

Paul,

There's a limit to how many devices search will show.

First, find the path of the cd. The best way to do this would be to reboot and do an ioscan, noting the path. Then reboot again, interrupt the process and enter "sea ", or even "bo ". You could also just enter pa to display the primary and alternate boot paths - the alternate may well be set to the cd already.

Pete
