I need to instal Java SDK 1.4 on a HP box which has an earlier install of Java SDK 1.3 running.

Do I have swremove the old version before I install the current version??

Hello,

If this version is consistent with previous versions, then no. It should just create a /opt/java1.4 directory and install there. Your 1.3 will be intact for whatever. You can, if you want to or need the space, swremove it.

Thanks Chris. That means if at all I need to swremove the old version, I need to backup all personal files in m/opt/java1.3 so that I can copy the same to the current opt/java1.4 directory

Yes,

You can keep the old java out there intil you don't need it, copy what you want to keep into the new version's directory and remove the old.
