Hi folks,

Thanks for all the help & suggestion.

The response centre guys send someone over to replace the harddisk. Seems like it's due to a bug in the harddisk firmware.

Thanks again,
Dennis

Hi,

I've a L1000 system running on HP-UX 11.11 with 1GB RAM. It has 2x 9GB SCSI harddisk installed.

Recently (within a span of 2-3 months), the system hanged (applications are not accessible, though it's still pingable on the network) with no apparent reason.

I've checked the syslog but nothing useful turned up before the system hanged.

Would appreciate anyone who has similar experience with this version of HP-UX.

Many thanks in advance.

Rgds,
Dennis

Hi,

Dennis where you able to check with top or glance or maybe even perfview to see what processes where keeping the system occupied ?

Did you do a TOC to restart the system ?
If yes there will be a crash dump in /var/adm/crash.

If so HP support will be able to analyse this dump to see what was going on on the system.

C.

What do mean by not accessible?
How did you reset the connection to the applications
Did you do a hard boot?

Please revert .

I would suggest:
1) ensure you have the latest patch bundle installed
2) If the symptom re-occurs, ensure you have enough space and TOC the box, interrupting the dump to change it to take as much data as possible.
3) get the dump analysed.

I just got a message from hp saying there was a patch I recently downloaded that can potentially cause random hangs.

You should get the security patch check script, run it, and update the box according to the report.

You can get it from http://software.hp.com/

Otherwise, you need to TOC your box while it's hung and use q4 to figure out what processes are running during the hang.

LAter,
Bill
