topic Disk instance numbers in Operating System - HP-UX

Hi

I've been playing for a while with an L-Class server (HP-UX 11.00/Sep2000) connecting with an XP512 via a Brocade switch. Anyway, ports have moved and hardware-paths have changed and instance numbers have incremented...

What I'd like to do now is have the instance numbers for the disk devices 'start again'. I currently have sdisk instances 0,1,2 for internal disks, then 1345, 1346, 1347, 1348... for the XP disks because they've been re-re-redetected at different HW paths.

Is there a way to reset the counter where it starts detecting from, remove the special files then let it detect them all again with nice instance numbers as it's causing my disks to be called c33dxsy... and other silly high numbers.

Ta

Hi,
I havent been playing with a XP512 yet, but when Ive finished messing up configs by changing devices and accessing through alternate controlers etc...I remove the config file:
mv /etc/ioconfig /etc/ioconfig.old

then do a ioscan
and start with a clean config...

Best regards
Victor

Simon,
The same question was asked back in January. You can do a search on "instance numbers" or take a look at this thread - it has the instructions you need:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x03c579bffde7d4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html
